Recently took a trip to my local Costco to grab some kid friendly lunch items that I think my kids would enjoy in their packed lunches during the week.
Kid Friendly Lunch Ideas
If you have school age children then you are all too aware of the lovely packing school lunch practice.
This year I discovered my kids are old enough to pack their own lunches, with a quick check from one of us to make sure it’s parent approved.
I try to stock up on a few new items each week that will make their lunch packing process easy, fun and balanced.
Here are a few items I recently found at Costco for kid friendly lunch boxes.
Fruit & Veggie Options
I try to get the kids to include either a fruit or veggie in their lunch, but it 100% transparency it doesn’t always make the cut. Or it comes back untouched.
However, these are some tried and true fruits and veggies that have been enjoyed in our lunches.
- sungold kiwi
- mini carrots
- apples
- grapes
- berries
- cuties / mandarins
- banana
My daughter loves these cocktail cucumbers. She typically just eats them alone but I’ve also included ranch dressing or hummus for a dip.
Lunch Protein Options
My kids love sandwiches, so sometimes we have to get creative when it comes to the main event for lunch.
Some favorites include –
- hardboiled eggs
- mini beef sticks
- salami and cheese with crackers
- apples + peanut butter
- veggies with hummus
- string cheese and fruit
- tortellini (I cook it in advance and either put in a thermos to stay warm or my kids will eat at room temperature)
- yogurt with nuts or granola on top
Miscellaneous Lunch Box Additions
My kids love these dried seaweed snacks. Some other favorites include –
- Organic Aussie Bites – good source of fiber and omega 3 fatty acids
- Mini Naked Smoothies – a good size for lunch as compared to the full size bottles
- Skinny Pop Popcorn
- That’s It Mini Fruit Bars – only 2 ingredients
More Grocery Store Finds
I don’t typically shop a lot at Costco, except to stock up on pantry items. However, you can check out more grocery store finds here –
