4 Healthy Eating Habits Tom Cruise Follows To Feel Great At 59 — Eat This Not That

4 Healthy Eating Habits Tom Cruise Follows To Feel Great At 59 — Eat This Not That

Posted on April 29, 2024March 16, 2023 By Sharika Soukup

Just spotted on the red carpet with Prince William and Kate Middleton for the soon-to-be-released Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise looks better than ever.

So how has 59-year-old Cruise barely aged since the original Top Gun film in 1986? Well, he has a few healthy tricks that help him out. While some of his eating habits may seem intense, you certainly can’t jump out of a flying plane or climb a cliff without a strict diet.

The celeb has been known to do all of his own stunts in his movies, including his upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. Not only does Cruise look young, but he clearly has kept his body young and fit as well.

Read on to find out the eating habits that keep Tom Cruise young, and next, check out 5 Snacks Shawn Mendes Swears By.

Nothing fried for this movie star. According to Men’s Health, Cruise sticks to foods cooked at low temperatures—mainly grilled. That’s because foods cooked at high temperatures can cause chronic tissue inflammation and speed up aging. Previous Eat This, Not That! reporting shows that one of the best eating habits for people over 50 is to eat anti-inflammatory foods, such as salmon, dark chocolate, raw oats, blueberries, ginger, beets, broccoli, olive oil, tomatoes, and spinach.

You won’t catch Cruise eating a huge bowl of pasta these days– he’s sworn off carbs. According to Men’s Health, the star is currently sticking to a 1200-calorie diet that cuts out carbs. Why? Well, nutritional scientist Dr. Paul Clayton told Men’s Health that carbs can speed up aging by creating insulin, an aging hormone.

In particular, previous Eat This, Not That! reporting recommends avoiding high glycemic index carbs, which are known to cause aging, such as bagels, pretzels, pasta, and cereal.

While Cruise may skip carbs now, he wasn’t always on a no-carb diet. In fact, the celeb once shared his spaghetti carbonara recipe, calling himself the “King of Carbonara.” The Tom Cruise diet has certainly changed a lot over the years.

With such a busy schedule on-set, Cruise stays energized with healthy snacks. According to Newshub, the star eats a ton of small snacks throughout the day, including freeze-dried organic blueberries and nuts. His co-star for “Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation” Simon Pegg also revealed that Cruise offered his chef services to the entire cast as they filmed.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

Simon told E! News that the chefs would prepare “these lovely little dates filled with peanut butter and sprinkled with coconut for snacks, and these little balls of truffle that were great.” No wonder Cruise can climb a cliff!

Sugar is off-limits for Cruise, especially when he has a movie coming up. Eat This, Not That! reporting shows that sugar can speed up aging by causing inflammation and damaging collagen and elastin. Consuming too much sugar can make your skin look older.

But just because the Top Gun star can’t enjoy sugar himself, that doesn’t mean he can’t share with others. Cruise often sends his co-stars cakes: “I love sugar, but I can’t eat it because when I’m training, I’m doing all these movies—so I send it to everyone,” he said on The Late Late Show With James Corden. “I wait for the calls…Like, tell me about it.” So the celeb basically lives vicariously through the cast to get his (imaginary) sugar high.
